In the last few days I have been a bit overwhelmed with the amount of friends who have reached out to see how I’m doing so what a great time for a broader audience update.

3 things to share as I’m at 4 months and 17 days since the final Proton Beam treatment in Boston at MGH:

IN MOMENTS OF HEALING, PURSUE HAPPINESS
One way to create happiness is to spend time with people you love. Barb and I went to Greece & London with our very dear friends Marc & Diana Attner who we love so much! We had another incredible vacation with them and our happiness was in abundance, especially during the Santorini sunsets. Also it was our 5th trip together in Europe so the 5th time is truly a charm!

25 GOING TOWARDS 50
The fibrosis on my upper jaw was caused from the 33 Proton Beam treatments and now I’m going through physical therapy. The normal persons mouth opens 50mm and mine is currently at 25mm as measured with a motion scale. The therapy to help open my mouth is called 7-7-7 which is a bunch of increasing tongue depressors (aka popsicle sticks) put in my mouth to stretch the opening for 7 seconds, 7 times in a row for 7 times a day until I get to 50mm.

I have another idea on 7-7-7.
How about if we connect with 7 people over the next 7 days and tell them how grateful we are to know them and how they positively impacted our lives. Then do this 7 more times by year end!

TIME FOR PROFOUND CHANGE
Unfortunately the Proton Beam really destroyed the hearing in my right ear as the 20,000 tiny hairlike cells in the cochlea got fried. This resulted in my hearing moving from “moderately severe” to “profound” per the extensive auditory testing this week. Add in the tinnitus and I have a significant issue to deal with. The combination of sound machines, meditation & lip reading should help. I have to listen with more intensity and this results in a common problem called Listening Fatigue which can really soak up your energy by the end of the day. So my apologies in advance if I shift into a power nap while we are in the middle of a conversation. 🙂

What’s profound is that I’m reminded that God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth so that we listen to twice as much as what we say. In my case I just have to learn how to be effective in a 1 to 1 ratio. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Until the next update- All Good and SO Grateful for Barb’s ongoing partnership!

Then it just hit me! Love Barb 7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7x7!
