If you are receiving the Salty Dogs you can see that I love to create convergent lists of ideas generated from my inventory of journals.
This week’s Salty Dog is about the 7 C’s of why I’ve been journaling for over 20 years.
Based upon a passion in building lists of C’s, I came across a timeline of my career that I created in 2015 called the 8 C’s of my career. (here we go again with those crazy lists!)
At the time I was looking at my 40 year career (what most of us will be doing in our lifetimes) in 5 year increments to see what my leadership mindset was and what I should aim for:
Years 1-5: CLUELESS
Years 5-10: CURIOUS
Years 10-15: COMPASSIONATE
Years 15-20: CONFIDENT
Years 20-25: COLLABORATIVE
Years 25-30: COMPETENT – where I was when I created this list
Years 30-35: COMMITMENT
Years 35-40: CARE FOR OTHERS
My big learning was to see if I could demonstrate the experience of later year C’s into the earlier years and try to lead with wisdom beyond my years. That was at least the goal! Experience demonstrated instead that I would get quite humbled with every stumble.
Just wanted to share as it’s another reflective exercise to do when you look back and have multiple journals to review and reflect upon for a 2nd time to see how your perspectives change with the experiences of time. At least I now know that failure is my friend and not the end!
It reminds me of the quote from Anais Nin, “We write twice to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”
I have found the retrospective reflections to be quite valuable and hope you do as well!
